Restaurant at The Hoste
Market Place Burnham Market PE31 8HD
Attracting a savvy, well-heeled crew, The Hoste Hotel is one of the best-known and still one of the most chi-chi spots on the Norfolk coast, serving food that we reckon is simply fabulous. You can eat in the appealingly pubby bar or the restaurant at the back (plus there's a garden during summer), and the menu is a well-balanced mixture of ‘land and sea’, very seasonal and sourced from listed local suppliers. The 'Norfolk Coastline' plate they serve at lunch for two is a things of beauty, and they also do simple stuff like ploughman's, fish and chips and gourmet sandwiches – though it's not the place for a cheap bite at any time of day. Dinner is posher and more expensive, with lots of great fish – turbot, sea bass, cod – rump of local lamb, Gressingham duck and the like: beautifully prepared and presented. You'll love it. And the great thing is you can go back for breakfast the next morning, which is always good.
