Binham Priory
Warham Road Binham NR21 0DQ
The beautiful 11th century ruins of Binham Priory are in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by rolling farmland about four miles southwest of Blakeney. They may have been isolated, but the Benedictine priors who ruled the monastic roost had a really bad reputation: one monk became insane through excessive meditation, so the prior had him flogged and then kept in solitary confinement until his death. The ruins focus on the priory church, whose handsome nave exhibits a fine set of window arches.
