Just outside the handsome Norfolk market town of Holt, you could easily drive by this lakeside glamping site without realising it's there. But slow down a little and follow the signs down an unmade lane, and the shepherds huts and bell tents of 'Holt Hollow' are there for you to discover – a rustic, dog-friendly glamping site that is both easily accessible and charmingly remote, with a choice of shepherds huts on one side of the lake, camping pitches on the other and bell tents in the woods. It's a place you can spend a lot of time doing not much at all, but it's also very well placed for seeing the multiple attractions of this corner of North Norfolk, including the coast, which is only about 20 minutes away.
The brainchild of ex-publican Nigel Marsh, the shepherds huts here were made to order in their own workshop, so they fit this location like a glove – cosy romantic retreats for two, with a double bed, a well-thought-out kitchenette with a gas hob, a toasty wood-burning stove and and an en-suite shower room and toilet with lots of hot water. The huts are a good size and each has outside seating overlooking the lake, complete with fire pits and barbecues – perfect for enjoying summer evenings and waiting for the stars to appear. If that all feels a bit too luxurious, then have a look in the woods behind the shepherds huts, where a series of pre-pitched bell tents are good alternative – perfect for large families or groups of friends looking for a more affordable option, while on the far side of the lake there are also opportunities to pitch your own tent – right by the water and within easy reach of the site's washblock, where there are toilets, hot showers and washing-up facilities.
It's a beautiful location, no question, and one that you will want to savour, cooking on the open fire and in general getting back to nature . But it's also very handy for Holt in one direction, where there are lots of places to eat and drink as well as a good selection of indy shops and other businesses, and the village of Edgefield in the other direction, where The Pigs is a good local pub serving excellent food. Further afield, the various attractions of the North Norfolk Coast are close at hand, including Blakeney with its seal-spotting trips, the nature reserve at Cley and more great places to eat at Weybourne and Salthouse. Or pick up the North Norfolk Railway from Holt to Sheringham, which is a thriving and very appealing seaside town. It's also worth noting the same owners have
Norfolk Coastal Cottages with mYminiBreak, if that's more your thing.

brilliant stay
Amazing 5 night stay at Holt in a Shepards Hut.
We had an incredible stay at the Dam Hill Site ,on arrival in the car parking area the beauty of the area is immediately apparent as your eyes lead you down a gentle slope towards the huts and lake .
The huts have all you need for a comfy stay and the woodburning stove pumps out the heat on a chilly night .The team were very helpful and Kevin helped us sort a couple of very small issues leading to a relaxed perfect stay for us and our dog .A nice volunteer even brought us some extra wood for our firepit which was nice of him.
Nigel and Carole were very responsive when booking and answered our questions in a polite timely manner.
We saw Herons ,Moorhens and chick's, squirrels, Deer, Buzzards and had an amazing flyby of a pair of kingfishers with Trout jumping in the lake at dusk.
We learned that this was the first season of operation at this site and can only hope that we will be able to book again in the future, its bound to become very popular with relaxing ,back to nature ,restorative breaks .
We had great days out at nearby Sheringham , Cromer and Runcton.
Tesco in Sheringham has 2 hours free parking and is better value than Waitrose in Holt.
Go ,Enjoy but please save a future space for us !.
Thank you MyminiBreak.

Great Location
Great location - peaceful and tranquil with lots of things nearby to visit. Holt is a lovely small town with cafes; shops and a couple of pubs - the steam train is worth a visit too. The shepherd's hut is perfect has everything we needed loved sitting outside with the fire pit in the evenings and early morning tea looking over the lake
