The Ship Inn
18 The Street South Walsham Norfolk NR13 6DQ
This village pub has long been know for its excellent food and does the simple things well, and as a result is an effortless cut above most other Broads village pubs that cater to both locals and the transient sailing community. It's a good place to drink, no question; but they also serve a nice, shortish menu of modern gastropub classics, with maybe half a dozen starters – Binham blue souffle with wilted spinach, moules mariniere, pan-fried scallops – and 6–8 mains (pan-fried sea bass, calves liver, lamb shanks), plus great steaks served with chips triple cooked in beef dripping. Plus there are always a couple of specials available, with two courses for £12 at lunchtime, £15 in the evening. You can sit outside and in the garden out the back, and like all the best pubs, it's dog-friendly too – just let them know in advance if you're eating and bringing a dog.
