Brasserie in the Courtyard
The Courtyard A65 Settle BD24 9JY
For a brighter, more contemporary experience than most of the cafés, pubs and restaurants hereabouts, call into the Brasserie, just outside the centre of Settle on the A65. It forms part of a boutique retail outlet known as The Courtyard – a converted Dales farmstead that's been turned into fancy creative spaces, from art gallery and bespoke furniture-maker to artisan wine shop and designer clothing and accessory store (the same developers are behind the revamped Queen's Arms in Litton). The Brasserie fits right in, with its gleaming open kitchen and vibrant interior, and the menu pushes all the right buttons, from Eggs Benedict breakfasts to Dales-sourced dishes with a continental twist. The rare-breed "Blue Pig" bacon, sausages and pork, for example, come from just a few hundred yards down the road and turn up in bacon sarnies or a sit-down Sunday roast. You can always just call in for a cappuccino, and they do a decent afternoon tea too.
