Hayburn Wyke Inn
Newlands Road Hayburn Wyke Cloughton North Yorkshire YO13 0AU
The secluded inn above the old smugglers' beach of Hayburn Wyke is a firm favourite for local walks – if you're going to eat or have a drink you can use the car park and then head down around the back of the pub to find the footpath down to wonderful Hayburn Wyke itself. The pub's a traditional, no-nonsense kind of place, set in a hollow just by the old railway track (now used by walkers and cyclists) – there used to be a nearby station back in the old days that would deliver trippers right to the door. It's regulation pub food on the menu – the bargain Sunday carvery gets a lot of custom – and beers are by Black Sheep, and when it's sunny it's lovely, with outdoor tables, a grassy garden and a separate children's adventure playground. To find the pub, take the Ravenscar road from Cloughton, a village on the A171 Scarborough–Whiby road.
