Boasting the tallest steeple in York, St Mary’s is an atmospheric medieval church with a double life as a contemporary visual art venue. Every year since 2004 an artist has been commissioned to set up an installation inside, usually incorporating parts of the church such as the nave or altar. You’re welcome to pop in and see what’s going on – until 2015 there will also be extra exhibitions in place while York Art Gallery is being refurbished.
