The Bear Tavern
6 Alfred Street Oxford OX1 4EH
A proper English pub – so tiny you’ll be hard pressed to find a seat in one of the two rooms after 8pm – with clippings from ties, strangely, all over the walls and ceilings. Its location in a back street among the colleges leads it to have a predictably young, studenty clientele, but it’s none the worse for it. Good food too. You’re unlikely to stumble across it as it’s so tucked away, but seek it out.
