Once lodgings for elite university students, Bath Place Hotel is a collection of 16 cottage-style rooms (double, twins and family suites available), next to the famous Turf Tavern – reputedly the oldest inn in the city. Originally built in the seventeenth-century, as you can imagine, it’s full of character – expect steep, windy staircases, ancient beamed-ceilings and four-poster beds in some rooms – plus it's right in the city centre, and has parking (£15 a day). There’s a standard buffet breakfast (think freshly-baked rolls and croissants) and Afternoon Tea is available on request. The plumbing is as you’d expect from a centuries-old building, but the charm and the location more make up for it – you’re a minute’s walk from both the Sheldonian Theatre and Bodleian Library. Wifi is available free of charge. For an alternative night’s accommodation in Oxford – this is the place to stay.
