It would be hard to find a more ideal location to stay in Oxford than this luxury property, right in the heart of the historic city centre and just footsteps from the city's main attractions. Occupying one side of a peaceful, high-walled courtyard garden, the Masters Lodgings comfortably sleeps 4 people in two whole-floor suites, and is offered as a self-catering property, but if you want to be truly pampered they also offer a 'concierge service', which includes a private chef, waiting staff and daily housekeeping. All in all it makes an ideal spot for seeing central Oxford while enjoying your own very peaceful, luxurious home-from-home. So luxurious, in fact, that the property has recently been awarded a Visit England 5 Star Gold Award. It also has a sister property across the courtyard, the larger Cloisters, which can comfortably accommodate 8 people in 4 large suites and can be booked separately or together for a large group.
The Masters Lodgings is a grade-II-listed, 17th-century townhouse whose two ‘whole floor’ suites blend heritage features with contemporary style: there are hand-made super-king size beds with Vi-Spring mattresses, en-suite bathrooms with roll-top baths and rainfall showers, and dressing rooms furnished with a desk, tulipwood wardrobes and easy chairs. A beautiful wood-panelled staircase (original to the house) links the bedrooms with the ground floor, where you'll find a well-equipped hand-made kitchen, complete with a high-end coffee machine, double ovens, boiling tap, induction hob and a dining table that overlooks the restful garden. There's a Sonos sound system with ceiling speakers, good wifi and a large and cosy sitting room with sofa and chairs, a dining table and French doors leading to the garden, which is quite honestly about as tranquil a place to sit and ponder as you'll find in central Oxford.
Above all it's nice to know that right outside your door the glories of Oxford's historic centre are waiting. And if you tire of city life, never fear – the charming small town of Woodstock and the grandeur of Blenheim Palace, not to mention the countryside and picture-postcard villages of the Cotswolds, are all just a short drive or bus ride away. If there is a better place to self-cater in the centre of Oxford, we have yet to find it!
