One of several secondhand and vintage clothing stores in the city centre, Uncle Sam’s nestles among the other uber-trendy establishments along Little Clarendon Street. What makes this joint different is its awesome American retro theme, hosting clothes from the 50s-80s. There are rails upon rails of cheap clothes, which make for an interesting browse… You can’t come here expecting to find something specific – unless velvet jackets, duffel coats or over-sized sunglasses are your thing. Regulars reckon Green Day t-shirts are a popular sight, along with ‘clothes that should never have been made’. Prettily patterned scarves are often a good find, as are quirky hats, while suits and jackets line the back room. The best finds are often in accessory form, with many kitsch objects ready to finish off an outfit with. The staff are super-friendly, always offering advice, and there’s a changing area if something tickles your fancy. You never know, you might walk away with a wonderful American 1950s bowling shirt! Be warned: it smells a bit like a jumble sale inside.
