Magdalen College
High Street OX1 4AU
There’s two for the price of one at Magdalen (pronounced Maudlin – but you knew that, didn’t you?) – not only the beautiful quads, inspiring cloisters, astonishing chapel and medieval bell tower – but also a real live deer park. Follow Addison’s Walk beside the river, where you’ll find rare wild snakeshead fritillaries blooming in spring, and check out the deer as well as the ubiquitous punters. May Morning – a high point in the Oxford calendar – means that Magdalen is the place for the traditional and exquisite singing from the tower.
