This excellent child-orientated museum not only displays ancient artefacts, but allows the visitor to dig them up as well. Let loose upon four relic-packed pits, and armed with a trowel, you’re encouraged to unearth the various shards of bone, pottery and masonry dating from the Roman, Viking, Medieval and Victorian times. With the help of an expert archaeologist, you can then learn all about what your crumbly finds were used for and how they were made. Some finds are – how shall we put it? – more natural. Oh yes, that's definitely ancient poo my friend.
