Burger
91/93 Shandwick Place EH2 4SD
Edinburgh has seriously bought into the gourmet burger restaurant craze that is currently sweeping the UK. The second branch of Burger (the other lies in Fountainbridge) sticks with its name and gets the simple things right, namely perfectly cooked, well sourced and immaculately seasoned 4oz Scotch beef burgers. Their fries are not half bad either. There are chicken and vegetarian variations on the burger theme too, as well as impressive array of specials, such as 'Beets by Burger', a grilled beef burger awash with beetroot aioli, rocket, goats cheese, pickled golden beetroot, crunchy beetroot and basil slaw. They do a mean hot dog too, with meat sourced from British farms – the highlight is the dog spiced up with chilli. The simple diner style decor meanwhile gazes across the Atlantic. Sticking with the American theme their milkshakes are superb too, with fresh homemade ice cream also on offer to round off a meal at this satisfying burgers and more retreat. Handily the restaurant is right by Shandwick Place tram stop so if you are coming in from the airport craving a decent burger you are in luck.
