The Raeburn is a real Edinburgh neighbourhood favourite, regularly scooping up awards for its on-the-button boutique stylings. If you’re looking for the personal touch, it has size on its side, since the old Georgian mansion only has ten bedrooms, all turned out in a sober, urban fashion, making use of the generous spaces. You get wooden panelling, a bit of tweed, espresso machines and iPod docks. There are rainfall showers in every room, and roll-top baths as well in the deluxe rooms.
You’re tucked up out of the way in Stockbridge, but when all’s said and done it’s only a 15-minute walk into the city or half an hour up to the castle. There’s a friendly, contemporary bar (good for cocktails) and bistro dining – the in-house breakfast is particularly good, while Sunday lunch is a nice treat here, with a ten-minute walk afterwards to the peaceful Royal Botanic Garden to look forward to.
