Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park
Barnbrock near Lochwinnoch Renfrewshire PA10 2PZ
Just a short drive south-west of the city lies a beguiling rural escape that feels as wild as many parts of the Highlands. For those without enough time to explore the rest of Scotland, this is a thrilling taster, the largest regional park in Scotland, with three visitor centres at Castle Semple, Greenock Cut and Muirshiel. The best base for hikers is Muirshiel itself: from here myriad trails lead off across the moors and hills, at the top of which it feels very wild and remote – despite the glimpses of the city in the distance through the shifting clouds.
