Oxford Bar

Edinburgh's literary connections can get quite high-falutin' at times, yet the truth is that these days more people read Irvine Welsh and Ian Rankin than Sir Walter Scott. The Oxford is one of Rankin's favourite pubs, and anyone acquainted with his Inspector Rebus will feel they know it well. It's an honest, no-nonsense and perhaps typical old-school Edinburgh drinking den, a little musty in places, and resolutely unmodernised, with little time for fancy lagers, fancy food or plasma screens – or the trappings of fame for that matter.
