Opened to mark the 70th anniversary of the original Valvona & Crolla shop, there's a Milanese slickness about this city-centre sister venue, with an espresso bar on the ground floor and a sleek wine bar and restaurant upstairs. V&C's wine cellar has always ranked among the UK's finest when it comes to Italian producers, with dozens available by the glass, while the food is classically Italian, with few of the usual crass British embellishments, so expect unelaborated dishes of good ingredients cooked simply but well – proper mozzarella di bufala salad, for example, or roasted fish dressed with olive oil and lemon.
