Royal Yacht Britannia
Ocean Terminal Leith Edinburgh EH6 6JJ
One of the world's most famous ships, the Royal Yacht Britannia was used by the Queen and Royal Family for state visits, holidays and functions all round the world between the 1950s and 1990s. At the end of its working life it returned to Scotland (she had been built on the Clyde) and a permanent mooring in Leith to allow it to be converted to a visitor attraction and function space. A visitor centre within the Ocean Terminal shopping centre provides lots of background; from there you take a custom-built gangway to get aboard, where explorations take you from the engine rooms to the state apartments, with plenty of nostalgic royal history and naval insights along the way.
