If a luxurious break on the world famous Orient Express to Venice or Istanbul is out of your price league, but you fancy a splash of rail luxury for a seriously special occasion right here in Scotland then the owners of the ‘Train of Kings’ offer day trips too. Their sumptuous Northern Belle evokes the opulent ‘Belle’ trains of the 1930s. Passengers, or rather guests, are welcomed by immaculately uniformed stewards and eased along in individually designed carriages that have been re-imagined from their old British rail shells by some of Britain’s top craftspeople, including marquetry experts, muralists and mosaic artists. You are welcomed aboard with a Bellini and brunch before setting off for a destination such as Inveraray Castle or Oban. After an excursion guests are glad to be back onboard with a welcome glass of champagne and a four course dinner that includes plenty of local produce. They also do lunch and dinner only trips too.
