Room in the West End
26 William Street Edinburgh EH3 7
The Room in the West End is that all too rare restaurant beast in Edinburgh – an affordable Scottish restaurant that dares to experiment a little and seldom disappoints. Descend below the (deservedly popular, whisky-laden) Teuchters Bar and enter a cosy subterranean retreat., with tables hidden away in little coves. The food is not as shy and retiring, with bold flavours and fresh local produce bursting from the plate. There is haggis, of course, but try also Modern Scottish creations like pan-seared pheasant breast on a Stornoway black pudding tattie scone, Madeira braised red cabbage and apple puree. Desserts are of the comfort food variety, a fittingly satisfying end to an experience that shows you can tick all the Scottish boxes without being too twee – and also push the boat out a bit without ramping up the cost.
