Cafe St Honore
34 North West Thistle Street Lane EH2 1EA
Superb French bistro style dining in the heart of Edinburgh. Neil Forbes – the mercurial chef formerly of The Atrium – is the man at the helm of an eatery that brings out the best in the Auld Alliance between Scotland and France. It feels like this cosy dining space could be nestled into a quiet little street in the Left Bank, but it's an Edinburgh restaurant all right, serving fine local ingredients that are unmistakably Scottish. Forbes is serious about sourcing locally, and highlights include hand-dived Mull scallops, Borders venison and North Sea hake. It's pretty reasonably priced, too, and you should also look out for special themed lunches to tie in the Edinburgh Farmers Market – from a chef who walks the culinary walk as well as so impressively talking the culinary talk.
