If you’re thinking of proposing, one of the Hoots Treehouses could be just the place. There have been a lot of marriage proposals here, and so far, according to lovely owner Lucinda, they’ve all said yes. It’s easy to see why. These treehouses are luxurious, secluded and unforgettable places to stay; 'like a five-star hotel room on stilts,' Lucinda says. And they're attracting more and more loved-up couples looking for a romantic place to stay. What's more, if you love the Great Outdoors they are perfect: there are no neighbours here, save for birds in the surrounding trees. And with spectacular sunsets and stargazing to be savoured, romance is all but assured.
It’s not only couples who would enjoy it here – one of the two treehouses, Hoots, is big enough for a family of four, and kids over five love sleeping in the loft area designed especially for them. Complete with a log burner to up the cosiness levels, this family-friendly treehouse is tucked among the foliage of an ancient woodland in the heart of the East Sussex High Weald. The other treehouse, Tawny, is also in the same woodland – though you wouldn’t know it. There’s enough distance between the two to feel like you have this entire enchanting setting to yourself.
Tawny is undoubtedly the more romantic and luxurious of the two. It has a super king-size bed (Hoots has a king-size and two singles) and a copper bathtub on a large decking/outdoor dining area facing west towards the setting sun. Access via an exciting rope bridge only adds to its sense of seclusion.
Whichever of these treehouses you choose, you can expect lots of mod cons like a Nespresso coffee machine in the kitchenette, a Roberts Radio, a Bluetooth speaker, a 40-inch TV and Egyptian cotton sheets. It really is five-star luxury, and yet your immersion among the trees means it's a thoroughly outdoorsy experience – the heady scent of the cedar beams and walls only adding to the forest-bathing feel.
A short walk takes you to a free-to-use tennis court and barrel sauna (available at an extra charge). There's an abundance of beautiful walks in the surrounding woods and a longer amble takes you to the pretty town of Mayfield. Lunch at The Middle House comes highly recommended, and the lovely gardens and National Trust properties in the surrounding Sussex countryside are also worth visiting. But we reckon after a couple of hours away, you’ll be itching to get back to your amazing treehouse hideaway.
