Situated in the grounds of the Sissinghurst estate, this luxurious B&B is perfectly sited not only for a visit to Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson’s famed gardens but also as a base for exploring this lovely corner of Kent, peppered with pretty villages, beautifully preserved National Trust properties and excellent walking and cycling opportunities. Don’t let the “Farmhouse” moniker mislead you – this is a large, stately and very handsome property, dating back to 1855 and now owned by the National Trust. You’ll be welcomed warmly and shown through the spacious open hall into your guest room – those upstairs are reached by a grand, sweeping staircase. Though they differ in size and layout, all seven options – twins and doubles – are comfortable, light and fresh, the decor mixing a touch of Victorian chintz with contemporary clean lines. En-suite bathrooms, iPod docks and wi-fi are standard, along with tea- and coffee-making facilities and vases of fresh flowers. All have views, to a greater or lesser extent, over the estate and its surrounding woodlands. Once you’ve dropped your bags you’ll be invited to settle in with a welcoming pot of tea and homemade cake. In cool weather it’s cosy to snuggle up on the sofa in the homely lounge and browse the many books on offer, while on sunny afternoons it’s nice to take your cuppa outside to the large, grassy garden. Either way, you may well be joined by the farmhouse’s friendly and very docile dog, who won't bother you but does like company.
