Playden Oasts
Playden Rye TN31 7UL
These ivy-clad oast houses on the edge of town are the haunt of an older crowd of locals who meet in the tiny bar of an evening to discuss things like how to reverse a 4x4 with a trailer. The range of beer is limited but there’s usually a guest ale and its leather sofas are a snug place to sit and listen to the chatter. The distinctive buildings house homely log fires through the winter while, when summer comes around, the spacious beer garden fills up with locals and tourists alike enjoying the food and ales. While the food and service is excellent, many arrive simply for the charm of the building itself and you can't blame them.
