Based on a working farm a mile or so outside the small village of East Heslerton, the luxury pods and shepherd's huts of Wolds Walk Glamping are a scenic delight. Perched high above the small town of Pickering and the North York Moors, the pods here have views to die for, while the shepherd’s huts are tucked away in woodland seclusion nearby. You're also bang on the long-distance Yorkshire Wolds Way, so there are country walks in all directions. You couldn't find a better or a more comfortable place for some luxury glamping amid the tranquil farmland, wildflower-filled valleys and rolling hills of North East Yorkshire.
You won’t miss the place if you’re arriving on foot, as the site’s three pods are visible from the trail. By road, it’s a little more tucked away, but your thoughtful host Paula will make sure you have detailed instructions to find your way. Either she or her husband Terry will be there to welcome you onsite and take you to your accommodation.
Each of the three pods here is a self-contained unit, with an en-suite bathroom, fully equipped kitchenette, underfloor heating and all you need for a self-catering stay. There’s WiFi and a TV that will surely only get switched on if the weather takes the spectacular views away. A raised deck, outdoor furniture and a fire bowl help you make the most of those from when the sun comes up to when the stars begin to twinkle.
Meanwhile, squirrelled away in the woods are a couple of adult-only shepherd's huts, each one equipped with a double bed, comfy dining table and chairs, a kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, electric hob and everything else you need, plus en-suite bathrooms with a toilet, sink and walk-in shower. Heating comes courtesy of a couple of co-efficient wall heaters, and both the pods and shepherd's huts come with bed linen, towels and toiletries, plus complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits and other basics, and games and books for rainy days.
Wolds Walk is an obvious stopover for hikers tackling the Wolds Way, but you don’t have to be a long-distance walker to stay here. It’s ideal as a base for shorter meanders, including the couple of miles' stroll to the nearest pub, The Dawnay Arms in West Heslerton, plus the delights of the North York Moors National Park are within a short drive, as is the coast at Filey and Scarborough. But the thing that most guests remark upon, and the thing that really sets the place apart, is that view – indeed, it might just be the best in the wolds!
