If you've ever consider staying in a Shepherd's Hut but decided it was too small, think again. Shepherds Retreat is quite unlike any other shepherds hut you may have seen, not least because it is twice the size of most – basically two large huts bolted together and converted into the most bijou, L-shaped holiday cottage on wheels that you've ever come across. Set among 80 acres of organic arable farmland in the heart of rural Worcestershire and the North Cotswolds, it's ideal both for a young family or a small group of friends, or even just as a suitably spacious romantic retreat for two. Once settled in, you won't want to leave.
Well Furlong Shepherds Retreat – as it's known – has no less than 50 square metres of living space, incorporating a large and well-equipped open-plan kitchen with breakfast bar and dining table, a living area with two sofas, a Hobbit wood-burning stove, Smart TV, good wifi and USB sockets. There's a separate bathroom with a double shower and two sleeping areas with high-quality beds and linen: one has a king-size bed (that can be split into two singles), the other is a 'hidden' double bunk room that can sleep either 2 adults or 4 children.
The hut has its own south-facing decking area with a sunken hot tub, sun-loungers and garden table and chairs with a large parasol, and steps lead down to a firepit and formal garden, beyond which there are 80 acres to roam at your leisure. Just as well as the hut is dog-friendly – a dog gate helps define the doggy and non-doggy parts.
The Retreat is nestled in fields close to the luxury Well Furlong Cottage which sleeps 6–8 and has its own indoor pool and spa – worth considering if you're looking for a place for a large group. The owners, Giles and Pollyanne, live next door and are on hand to help out if need be. Beyond the estate, footpaths lead up onto Bredon Hill and there's a decent local pub an easy 2-mile walk away – plus you’re only 15 minutes in the car from Broadway and its shops, restaurants and cafés. It's a perfect place to come if you want to walk or be active, but also if you just want to relax.
