Blue Bar
East Cliff Beach Road Porthtowan Cornwall TR4 8AW
If you’re a regular visitor to Cornwall, the legendary Blue Bar may need no introduction. For more than a decade this beach bar has been one of the county’s coolest venues to eat, drink, dance and chill out surfside. Yet tucked on the edge of Porthtowan Beach – thirty minutes’ drive from the crowd pullers of St Ives and Newquay – not everyone is lucky enough to know about it. A place where dog-walkers, families and surfers flock in every season, here you can bask on the terrace that stretches to the edge of Porthtowan Beach, or – with big window bays facing the Atlantic rollers – lap up beach views huddled inside over a hot chocolate. Not just relying on its world-class location to lure custom, Blue is as well-known for its rocking live music and comedy nights, as it is for big breakfasts, 'Blue Burgers' and mountainous nachos platters that make the perfect fuel after a dip in the surf. In fact, the Blue Bar’s only shortfall is its popularity – even with extra seating in its neighbouring Boardroom venue it gets crowded on sunny days. But once you’ve bagged a seat who cares if you have to wait a while for food? After all, there are few better places to sink a beer while you soak up sea views and cracking sunsets. Dogs welcome.
