This modern beachside penthouse is a Cornish apartment that’ll make daytrippers to Porth beach jealous. It offers views of the sea and the setting sun from its balcony, is just a few steps off the sands and has downstairs storage for surfboards and buckets and spades. What those daytrippers can’t see, however, is just how lovely the place is inside. This two-bed apartment has been recently refurbished to a high standard to provide accommodation that’s as stylish and comfortable as it is convenient for the beach.
If you’re looking for self-catering accommodation on Cornwall’s surf-tastic north coast, you couldn’t do much better. 6 Porth Sands sits in prime position on the top floor of a small apartment building overlooking Porth Beach, a family-friendly bay at the eastern end of Newquay. It’s midway between the breakers and surf schools of Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay, each under a 10-minute drive away or a stunning walk via the South West Coast Path. What all this means is the apartment suits all sorts of guests; families and couples, surfers and walkers – plus those who just want to relax with an unbeatable view.
To that end, the apartment is flexibly furnished with a second bedroom that can be configured as a twin or a super-king. Along with the two bedrooms, which both have their own TVs, there are two bathrooms, so there’s plenty of space whether you're a family or a group of friends. Or perhaps you’ll come with just one significant other? This place definitely has romantic appeal, with a grown-up colour palette, lighting and textures, as well as those sunset views. They are hard to miss from the open-plan living space which combines a well-equipped kitchen, dining space and living room all opening via bi-folding doors to the balcony.
This is a contemporary apartment with mod cons but, thanks to its position on the coast, it still offers a quintessentially Cornish holiday experience. For more of that, step outside and head to the Gwenna Teahouse for a Cornish cream tea or to the Hole in The Wall for a locally-made ice cream. There are plenty of places for fish and chips, a pub on the sands and buzzy central Newquay is just a 25-minute walk away.
