Simply a cracking pub – no two ways about it. It’s a dog-friendly, real-ale kind of place, with ancient wooden benches, roaring fires and a changing selection of beers, including some from the local Keswick Brewing Company. Bar meals here are really popular, and their proud boast is that nothing is fried – so no chips, but hearty dishes with lashings of potatoes, rice and fresh veg, including the house special goulash, which is filling enough to get you up Everest and back, never mind the lakeland fells.
