If there’s a name in the Lakes that’s synonymous with outdoors stores, it’s George Fisher, the rather grand emporium in Keswick devoted to hiking maps, books, clothes, rucksacks, ski stuff, navigational aids and anything else you can think of that will ease your way (or even keep you alive) on the mountain. Trained staff can help you choose the right gear, and can even recommend a hike or two (there’s a weather forecast posted daily), and there’s a great café on the top floor too. Hikers’ heaven.
