The Tiger Inn
The Green, East Dean BN20 0DA
The setting of the Tiger Inn, on a picture-perfect village green of flint-walled cottages, is about as idyllic as you can get, especially in summer, when drinkers spill out on to the green. The pub is just half a mile from the fabulous pebbles-and-rockpools beach at Birling Gap, and is a popular lunchtime stop-off for walkers tramping along the magnificent coastal section of the South Downs Way, which passes Birling Gap on its route along the Seven Sisters cliffs towards Beachy Head. Walkers even have a beer named in their honour – the award-winning Legless Rambler, one of several offerings from the local Beachy Head microbrewery, which has its brewery tap at the Tiger Inn. Food is standard pub grub (burgers, fish and chips, sausage and mash, ploughman's, and the like) – hearty, stomach-filling fare, with a couple more foodie options (such as slow roasted pork belly, or duck breast with a rhubarb and ginger sauce) available in the evening.
