Lewes is the archetypal riverside town, with wanderable streets, its own historic brewery and a fine selection of pubs to match, plus a vibrant dining scene at a variety of restaurants – Lewes is also home to the original Bill's. It's also within easy reach of some of the best parts of the South Downs National Park, with an array of walks within easy reach. In short, it's an ideal destination for a weekend trip from London.
The property has a comfortable, bright living-dining space, furnished with taste and style with a comfy seating area at one end and a dining table seating four at the other, a well-equipped galley kitchen and two bedrooms – one provided with a large double bed, the other with a trundle single bed that makes a perfect bedroom for young children. There's a family bathroom, a sun-trap courtyard and an attic playroom with a children's pool table. The house is dog-friendly too so you don't have to leave your four-legged friend at home.
Lewes is connected by regular train from London, and there's so much to do once you're here that you don't even need to bring the car. Sights include the castle and the priory, and the town is known for its massive Bonfire Night celebrations every November. Not for nothing is Lewes known as the ‘Bonfire Capital of the World’ – its legendary annual gathering attracts scores of pyro pilgrims. Needless to say, if you want to come then, book up well in advance. And if you don't? Well, you can just enjoy Lewes as it normally is – peaceful and amiable, with lots to see and do, and your own delightfully cosy house to come back to at the end of the day.
