Liana
Hoveton Riverside Park NR12 8UR
The almost silent, electricity-propelled Liana used to ply its trade down in Beccles, in the southern Broads; nowadays it explores the northern Broads, in particular the upper reaches of the Bure towards Coltishall, from its berth in Hoveton – and the good news is it's one of the quietest and most beautiful stretches of river on the Broads, its weedy shallows and bushy, tree-crammed banks offering a decent chance of spotting cormorants, kingfishes, otters and even the occasionall deer swimming from one side to the other. There's also a spot not far out of Hoveton on the left where you can swim. Boatman and Broads fanatic Ron will help you spot the best places, and bring back within an hour, and it's a wonderfully peaceful trip, with most traffic heading off in the opposite direction, downriver towards Horning and beyond. The only pity is it doesn't take you all the way to Coltishall, turning back about a third of the way there.
