The Roman Baths
Abbey Churchyard, Bath BA1 1LZ
Bath’s premier attraction, the source of the city’s name and one of the most visited sights in the country, the Roman Baths are the well-preserved remains of the original spa resort. The aptly named Grand Bath, its pea-green thermal waters surrounded by 18th-century statues, is the highlight, along with side rooms containing the Sacred Spring, the Circular Bath, and the remnants of a temple dedicated to the goddess Sulis Minerva, a deity with healing powers. Free hourly tours and audioguides (including one specifically for kids) add background, while costumed characters and recently added animations and film projections bring the whole complex to life.
