The Hungry Guest
Lombard St Petworth West Sussex GU28 0AG
After a few hours spent exploring Petworth House or poking about in the market town’s dozens of antiques shops, the Hungry Guest café is the perfect pit-stop, whether for lunch (choose from platters, open sandwiches, fishcakes, burgers and more), an afternoon tea of warm buttermilk scones, or wood-fired pizza and pasta in the evenings (Thurs–Sun). The café is in a lovely location, tucked away off the main square on cobbled Lombard Street (once the busiest throughfare in town); inside, everything is crisp, modern and super-stylish, and there’s a courtyard out the back for soaking up the sun. All of the bread, pastries and cakes lined up so temptingly on the counter are baked by The Hungry’s Guest’s own bakery in Chichester; you can buy them, and many more Sussex goodies, from the excellent Hungry Guest food shop a five-minute walk away.
