Marvellously tucked away in a lush wooded estate beside a Strawberry Hill Gothic mansion, this is an utterly unique B&B. Each of the three rooms at is a separate experience – one is in an airily converted, well-lit barn sleeping four with spiral steps leading up to a bedroom and there’s a one-seat balcony. Another ‘room’ is in the form of a weatherboarded estate cottage with internal shutters and sloping ceiling. Most individual of all is the third accommodation option, with a firm nod to African game lodges (owners Alison and Ron formerly lived in Africa) in a treehouse, where live chestnut branches frame the bed and eco-friendly insulation provided by the straw ceiling. Sitting out on hammock chairs on the verandah you might think you’d been transported to a rainforest. Breakfast is in a conservatory imaginatively converted from the stables and pens. Friendly cats make you feel thoroughly at home.
