The five riverside apartments which make up Darcy Mews each offer modern self-catering with style in a peaceful part of the historic North Yorkshire town of Richmond. Nestled below Richmond Castle’s ramparts, this converted Victorian gasworks overlooks the River Swale and Richmond Falls, and is a perfect location for those who like the convenience of being in town but also appreciate a healthy dose of the great outdoors. After all, there’s the riverside walk to Easby Abbey starting from the doorstep and it’s just a short drive into the Yorkshire Dales.

After days exploring North Yorkshire, the Darcy Mews apartments offer a welcome place to return to. All are equally clean, comfortable and well-located but each is slightly different, meaning there’s one to appeal to most types of guest. Coming with the family? Perhaps you’d like the ground-floor apartment No. 5. It’s a two-bedroomed, dog-friendly pad with an open-plan design that means you can keep an eye on the family while you cook dinner – and the park with play equipment just outside is sure to be a hit with the kids. If you’re looking for something more grown-up, head straight up to The Penthouse, a top-story apartment reserved for just two guests and perfect for romantic retreats. Once occupied by Sir Ian McKellan no less, its spacious balcony has lovely views of the river.

For more space, there are split-level, three-bedroomed apartments in which flexible bedrooms have the capability of being designed as twins or doubles with king-size beds. Whichever you choose, you’ll have WiFi, Smart TVs and a kitchenette that’s well equipped. But it’s the finishing touches – the quality bedding, the complimentary toiletries, the welcome pack and the super-clean finish that will make your stay extra special. It’s a short uphill walk from your apartment to reach Richmond’s cobbled Market Place. There’s a market here on Wednesdays and Saturdays but the elegant Georgian buildings, independent shops and eateries are a fixture. Likewise, Richmond Castle, which has been here since Norman times and is just a little older than Easby Abbey, which is a pleasant 35-minute walk away.

Getting There

From the A1 head towards Richmond via the A6055 and the B6272. Once in Richmond, take a slight left on to the A6108 to keep heading towards the centre. At the roundabout take the first exit on to Dundas Street and then the first left on to Frenchgate. Continue onto Millgate, then turn right on to Riverside Road where you will find Darcy Mews.
