A stay at The Old Potting Shed delivers rather more than the name suggests. Yes – it’s a cute little place that’s warmed by a log burner but it’s not what you would call rustic. Instead, this is a rather plush place for a self-catering stay. That log burner is recessed in a wall covered in designer wallpaper. It sits next to a Smart TV and opposite a comfy sofa with velvet cushions and an upholstered footstool. There’s artwork on the walls, a heated towel rail in the bathroom and a hot tub outside in your private courtyard garden. All this is delivered in a location that sits on the riverside edge of Richmond, just 10 minutes’ walk from its shops, sights, pubs and restaurants.
Sleeping up to four in two double bedrooms, The Old Potting Shed works well for two couples or for a family of up to four, but it’s not too large for a couple either. And the outside courtyard and grassy garden plus the proximity to riverside walks makes this a particularly good in-town option for people with dogs, who are welcome here too.
Whether you come with the dog, the kids, your friends or just one special other, you’re sure to appreciate the attention to detail that’s gone into the Old Potting Shed. Feature walls, heavy fabrics, thoughtful lighting and good quality bedding all help make your stay comfortable. And while this impossibly pretty cottage looks dinky from the outside, it manages to fit in a lot. There are king-size beds and the bathroom has both a bathtub and walk-in shower. The living and dining room are open-plan but there’s a separate and well-equipped kitchen.
You can use that to whip up meals after days out exploring but make sure you take advantage of the location too. Richmond’s cobbled Market Place is a 10-minute walk away and there are good pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from there and in the surrounding Georgian streets. You can walk along the river to Richmond Falls in no time at all and continue on to Easby Abbey in under an hour. And don’t forget, Richmond sits on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales so there’s plenty more walking, cycling and sightseeing in that direction too.
