A lodge with a view in one of England's most beautiful valleys – there's not much more selling that needs to be done when that's your offer. Sister site to the excellent glamping set-up at nearby Catgill Farm, the four luxury timber lodges at Howgill look out on the Wharfe valley from their position at the top of a popular terraced campsite that's well known among walkers – there's a steep path from the site up the 1,600-foot high Simon’s Seat.

These are spacious, modern, timber lodges with a chic interior – sofas, snuggly throws and cushions, cast-iron log-burner, quality bedding, central heating, and an en-suite bathroom with shower. There's also wifi and a smart TV. Each lodge sleeps up to six (a double, two singles and a double sofa-bed), and makes full use of the location, with far-reaching views from the patio doors. Outside is a wood-fired hot tub and a dining area on timber decking, and a firepit/barbecue with a built-in pizza oven. That's a pretty awesome place to sit out and soak up the sunsets, glass of wine in hand while the hot tub soothes away the aches from a day's walking. As night falls, the stars come out – thousands of them on a dark, clear night in this part of the world.

Right next to Howgill Lodge is the Brownie Barn, with outdoor seating, homemade brownies and milkshakes, and there's no point pretending you aren't going to visit that during your stay. The nearest village, Appletreewick, is one of those cute Dales' villages on every postcard. More importantly, it's got two nice old country pubs and you can walk there in twenty minutes along the banks of the River Wharfe. There are other walks in every direction, from day hikes to the 80-mile-long Dales Way (which passes 500 yards from the site). Nearby Bolton Abbey, with a magnificent ruined priory and riverside picnic areas, is a great place to spend the day, while young ones will particular enjoy Hesketh Farm Park or a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine, which runs on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, 5 minutes’ drive away. Nearest town is Skipton, with a magnificent castle and plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants.
