The Runcible Spoon
3 Nine Tree Hill, Bristol BS1 3SB
This co-op-owned restaurant in Stokes Croft epitomises this part of the city perfectly. The food is locally sourced and the restaurant accessible and community-focused – no pretentious foodies, please. The food is totally seasonal and whatever you eat has been grown nearby; indeed the aim of the restaurant when it opened in 2011 was to use 100 percent British produce and to make everything in-house, with a real commitment to the environment. Not that they give you a hairshirt to wear when you come in: it’s joyful, fun and – best of all – great value. The choice is small and select and the two- and three-course set menus are a real bargain.
