Amazona Zoo
Hall Road Cromer Norfolk NR27 9JG
Situated on a 15-acre patch of woodland just outside Cromer, on the North Norfolk Coast, Amazona Zoo is a privately run zoo where most of the animals from the Amazon, or at least South America – a small but high quality collection of critters, who seem happy and well cared for, occupying decent decent-sized enclosures and looked after by a dedicated team of caring staff. The zoo is conservation-minded and makes the point that its creatures have all been born in the breeding programmes of other zoos and that none have been taken from the wild. Whether that's important to you or not, it's a good half-day out at least, with some 200-odd animals in around a dozen featured areas, including a 'Feline Forest', home to a puma, ocelot and a jaguar, a hothouse with caimans, iguanas and other reptiles, a lake with a monkey island and other enclosures featuring tapirs, birds of prey, exotic birds and more. If it rains, your kids can take refuge in the 'Jungle Tumbles' indoor activity space, with slides, climbing nets and tunnels, or you can just head for the inevitable café and gift shop, which are both well-stocked and reasonably priced.
