The Garricks Head
7 & 8 St Johns Place Bath BA1 1ET
The allegedly haunted Garricks Head is a thespy kind of pub, nestled into the side of the Theatre Royal. Look out for actors boozing by the fire in the pink-walled bar, or take advantage of the pre-show set menu in the separate restaurant before you dash to a performance. Ideally, though, don't rush over dinner – the food here is good, using lovely local ingredients (Wiltshire game; Cornish mussels soaked in Somerset cider). For something more snacky, grab a bowl of triple-cooked chips – yes, they are three times as tasty.
