The Hop Pole
7 Albion Buildings Upper Bristol Road Bath BA1 3AR
Sister pub to the more central Salamander, the Hop Pole is another Bath Ales boozer, sitting cosily across the road from Victoria Park. As you'd expect, the beer is great – on-tap ales from the local brewery usually include classic Gem, seasonal Festivity and summery Golden Hare. In winter, drink by the open fire; in summer the beer garden is an ideal sun spot. The food is good too – starters such as Fowey mussels and sausage rolls with piccalilli, maybe followed by Neston Park game pie or beer-battered fish; eat in the bar, or the new bright, light dining room at the back. A bit out of town, but well worth the short walk.
