Situated in the picturesque village of East Dean, just north of Goodwood, and with a feel that's rooted deep in the Sussex countryside, the Star & Garter is almost the perfect village pub. Housed in an old flint building dating back to the eighteenth century, it serves a great choice of ales, has a lovely roaring fire in winter and does mostly excellent food, including fab fish and seafood supplied by the local fishermen at nearby Selsey, local game and an excellent toad-in-the-hole. And the nice things is that dogs are welcome everywhere; there’s even a hitching post for your horse – particularly useful as they have a selection of very comfortably appointed rooms upstairs.
