Pappardelle
41 High Street Arundel West Sussex BN18 9AG
Pappardelle is two places rolled into one: upstairs is the excellent Pappardelle Ristorante, a traditional family-run Italian restaurant; downstairs is Osteria Pappardelle, a more informal café-bar with long copper communal tables and bare-brick walls – the sort of place you can pop in for a quick coffee, or linger over breakfast waffles and a weekend paper for a few hours, or even settle down to a game of scrabble if the mood takes you (there’s a small bookcase crammed with games). Food is served all day at the osteria (ranging from paninis to pizza platters), but it’s an equally nice spot just to head for a drink, with over thirty wines by the glass (also available as ‘flites’, a selection of 100ml measures – a fun mini wine-tasting experience), twenty different grappas, cocktails (£6.50) and delicious cichetti (Italian-style canapés).
