You won’t all sleep under one roof but you’re not far away and can gather together for meals in the big house, games in the garden and walks in the extensive grounds. There are 17 acres with a walled garden, a bluebell woodland and lawns, not to mention the tennis court, cricket pitch, a lake for wild swimming and a games room. And, if that’s not quite enough, there are swings, a treehouse and even a zip wire for you to enjoy.
The House, The Barn and The Cottage can be rented separately or in combination to suit your numbers. While each has its own charm, the spec across all of them is high: Smart TVs and Sonos speakers, well-kitted-out kitchens and comfy bedrooms. The main house is undoubtedly the top spot. In addition to the pool, walled garden and terrace (which are exclusively yours on separated stays), there are grand rooms filled with artwork and antique furniture plus a super-spacious suite on the top floor. There are five other classically-decorated bedrooms and five bathrooms as well. The capacity is 12, but zed-beds can be added for six kids to raise numbers to 18.
The three-bed Cottage next door sleeps five adults and up to five children, and The Barn’s usual capacity of eight guests can rise to 12 when needed. Dogs are also welcome in both of these. The Cottage with its inglenook fireplace and period furniture has, perhaps, more old-world charm, but it’s hard to call as both have been carefully renovated to preserve and expose old timbers. In The Barn, a topsy-turvy layout means living spaces are under the eaves with bedrooms on the ground floor.
All of this is less than two hours south of London on the edge of Ashurst village, with views of the South Downs National Park. If anything is going to give you the urge to explore beyond your private estate for the weekend it’ll be that chalky ridge of hills. But, let’s be honest, with so much on site, there’s little chance of anyone getting bored – and very little temptation to leave.

Honeybridge Estate has, literally, something for everyone, from the youngest children (including facilities for babies) to the elderly, it is ideally suited to accommodate multi generational families but has all the conveniences to host corporate getaways too. The three properties individually or in combination, each with its own unique characteristics, have hosted wedding celebrations and honeymoons, well being retreats and activity holidays. Steyning is home to Julia Donaldson, the talented Children's Laureate (2011-2013) and prolific author of children's books including, most famously, The Gruffalo. Signed copies of many of her titles, amongst those of other authors, are available at the Steyning bookshop. Walking along the South Downs or around the Knepp Estate wilding project, cycling across Ditchling Beacon or visiting the nearby vineyards to sample some of the very best English wines are highly recommended activities but, it has to be said that most guests barely leave the Estate between check in and check out as there is so much to do within the 17 acres of the Estate, from wild swimming to cricket not to mention the zipwire, tennis court and outdoor hot tubs and local recommended chefs can prepare sumptuous meals for guests by prior arrangement.Food & Drink
The nearby village of Findon is home to The Sylvan Oak which offers superb cuisine in a relatively informal setting. Opposite the restaurant, there is the award winning pub of the year, The Gunn Inn. The Fountain Inn in Ashurst is within walking distance of Honeybridge estate and the picturesque town of Steyning is well worth a visit and offers a choice of options for a traditional British afternoon tea, including in the quaint Cobblestone Yard.Open

Perfect
We spent a joyous weekend celebrating our matriarch's 90th birthday. Four generations of family come together to rejoice and reflect on gorgeous surroundings. What a fabulous Estate this is!
What a fabulous Estate this is! How lucky we are to find it. Full of magical nooks and glorious grounds. We have swum, played tennis, zip wired and had a truly wonderful time. From the moment we came through the gate at the bottom of the drive we knew we had found a truly special place. We are already looking forward to our next visit. Glorious property
We were here with 28 friends and family from 4 years to 75 years old to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. A wonderful weekend of fun and laughter in this glorious property. Everything we needed was catered for and we all enjoyed the pool, swings, swimming lake and zipwire. Yoga with Jo on Sunday morning was wonderful out on the balcony in glorious sunshine. Most magical stay at the house and cottage
This has been the most magical long weekend in honour of my 80th birthday. The whole set up is absolutely amazing, with attractions to suit all our group whose ages ranged upward from 9 years. Absolutely everything was catered for, the facilities are superb and the setting and views are outstanding. What a weekend and we were even blessed with fine weather. The children must have swam at least 100 lengths of the pool and even Grandad went on the zipwire!! I would like very much to book it for 2034 for my 90th.
Wonderful stay
We have had a wonderful stay. Thank you to Zoe and Steve for making us feel so welcome. We’ve loved the beautiful Barn, lovely goodies and (especially our dog) the lovely grounds. The hot tub and the swimming lake have had lots of use! Walks at Cissbury and Chanctonbury Hill were amazing, and the Knepp Estate café/restaurant was delightful. We’ve been lucky with the weather with a picnic on Chanctonbury Hill and Tea on the balcony.

From the moment we arrived, we are transported to a state of relaxation and enchantment, words cannot portray our feelings of gratitude for giving us the most incredible and memorable stay. Every aspect of our stay has been impeccable to say the least. From the cozy interior hall of character, to the pristine swimming pool and hot tub facilities, all whilst surrounded by the most beautiful grounds – there’s no surprise that coming to Honeybridge is the highlight of the year! Zoe and staff, it has not gone unnoticed how you have made us feel like royalty with the most marvellous and efficient service always with a warm and friendly demeanour. We are so grateful to you for giving us the opportunity to switch off from our hectic lives, enjoy the surround of the kids giggling together and feel all round pampered. We hope you’ve enjoyed having us too! And although its always difficult to leave this magical place, we look forward to reliving the greatest memories that we have created here. Most amazing time
To All at Honeybridge Estate, My multigenerational family has had the most amazing time celebrating my 70th birthday. We couldn’t have chosen a more suitable house to spend our weekend. Not one of us has wanted to leave! The children have had the best time ever in the pool and even allowed the adults to join in when we weren’t using the spa facilities. We have had wonderful walks around the grounds, using the bikes, swings, and zip wire. Honeybridge has everything you could wish for; nothing has been missed out. Zoe has been so helpful and friendly. I would recommend Honeybridge Estate to anyone who is looking for a wonderful private place to celebrate or to spend time with friends and family. We are all looking forward to being able to visit again!

Dear Team, However can we thank you all for ensuring we had an amazing weekend! We could not have found a house more perfect for celebrating. You are more than thoughtful, taking your effort to such a high level to make our stay memorable and more than comfortable. Truly memorable
The Family had gathered here to celebrate our son Zac’s birthday in this wonderful and captivating house and surroundings. The beautiful rolling grounds, impressive sculptures and thought-provoking paintings and tapestries are just amazing. The house and its facilities exceeded our expectations in every way, including the excellent dinner cooked by Chef Michael supported by his wife. Some of us will forever remember the invigorating (and cold) wild swimming in Winter! Lastly, our thanks and appreciation to Zoe and all staff who made our visit truly memorable. Best Wishes

Our third time here, and we have had a wonderful time again. The pool makes such a difference when the weather was wild and stormy. Great meal from Richard at the Social Table and message from the lovely Emma. Zoe and Steve couldn’t have been more helpful.

Wonderful weekend in the barn
We just spent a wonderful weekend with our family to celebrate P’s 70th birthday. Everything was wonderful and we enjoyed everything on offer – including wild swimming! The children’s play area was a joy for our two 2-year-old Grandchildren and the adults loved the whole experience. Incredibly special
What an incredibly special place to spend half term with our boys! There is so much to do we feel incredibly lucky to have stayed here the highlight of our trip was definitely seeing our eldest son Charlie catch his first fish. That would never have happened were it not for the kindness and patience of Alan and the incredible organisational skills of Zoe. We have honestly been so well looked after and every small detail has been considered and executed perfectly. What a magical place we definitely plan to return!
Return visit
A return visit for our family, but this time with friends in the ‘Big House’, It is impossible to fault this place – it is beautiful, peaceful with everything you could possibly want. The flexibility and care shown by all the team is just wonderful. Honeybridge has given us a most memorable weekend.
