Birdcage
92 Stranmillis Road Belfast BT9 5AE
Chicken, chicken and more chicken. In short, the Birdcage attempts to offer up some cool surroundings for the chicken lovers of Belfast to pull up a chair and chow down on a bird or two. Its location and reasonably priced lunch menu has made it a popular haunt with local office folk. There are half a dozen different variations of the standard chicken burger to choose from including a cajun twist, a sticky BBQ version and a bit of chilli bite. The savoury chicken crepes are tasty and the wraps make for the perfect lunch (check out the chilli chicken with leaves, hummus and tapenade), washed down with a jam jar of home made lemonade. Skip the burritos – there are designated burrito joints in the city doing it better. During the day it's family friendly with a small but ideal Kids Menu (£5.95 for main, dessert and drink) making it a favourite at the weekends for Ulster Museum visitors (a short walk away). The full menu is served all day with last orders at 11pm. After a night out it often attracts couples and groups looking to share some munchies... 'Birdmunches' include bread sticks and olives, nachos and deep fried cheese balls. For those with a bigger appetite, diners can choose from a half or full chicken and a large bucket of wings! On milder evenings the outdoor seating is often crammed with cocktail sippers, chicken nibblers and people watchers.
