Mwnt Beach
Cardigan Bay SA43 1QH
When you're rummaging through travel brochures, looking at all the beaches with golden sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, you don't instantly think of Wales. But Cardigan Bay is home to some of the finest beaches in the UK – if not the world – and Mwnt is at the top of the pile. It's slightly off the beaten track, but the drive up is spectacular, so if you get lost you won't mind in the slightest. Once you're there, if it's the height of summer, expect to encounter a lot of fellow beachgoers and families. But outside peak season, Mwnt is a magical little cove, perfect for dolphin and seal spotting, with sand that's as fine and golden as it gets and turquoise blue waters straight out of the Caribbean. Unlike a lot of Welsh beaches, it's not really a surfing spot, but more of a beach-bum hangout, and the coastal walk up to the 13th-century gleaming white church is breathtaking.
