Enjoying a beautiful position close to the sea in the rolling green hills of Ceredigion, midway between Cardigan and New Quay, Glanmedeni is a wonderful place for two people to get away from just about everything. A beautifully restored old stone forge, it's just a few miles from the coast, and benefits from being part of a larger property, which includes large grounds with gardens and woodland that the owners are busy re-wilding to encourage local wildlife. There are paths and walks around the property that guests are welcome to explore, with dogs on leads.

Above all, Glanmedeni is a unique – and uniquely well kitted-out – place to stay, with a beautiful fitted kitchen and modern bathroom complete with a very special wooden Japanese dipping tub. The bedroom is on a mezzanine floor and is accessed by a spiral staircase and has a lovely super-king-size bed with White Company linen that can easily be transformed into two singles. The property is well equipped with pretty much everything you might need for a comfortable and cosy stay – a woodburning stove, good wifi, Smart TV, coffee machine, dishwasher and microwave, among other things, and outside there's a wooden deck and private garden with views over the fields beyond.

As for the location, there are stunning views across Cardigan Bay and the Irish Sea, and the nearby Ceredigion Coast Path leads to all sorts of isolated coves and sandy beaches. Realistically, you'll need a car to make the most of exploring the local area, with the closest pub, The Ship, 4 miles down the road on the seafront at Tresaith and heading into Cardigan is your best option for stocking up on essentials. To the south, the Preseli Mountains were the source of the Stonehenge standing stones and retain all sort of stone circles and ancient sites to explore, for example at Pentre Ifan, while the Ty Canol nature reserve encompasses West Wales' largest ancient woodland. Not only that – the Pembrokeshire coastal town of Fishguard is just a short drive to the south, while slightly closer to the north the quaint seaside town of New Quay is home to more beautiful beaches.

Details

Facilities

We spend a great deal of our time and energy here at Glanmedeni, improving and enhancing the house, cottages, garden and grounds.

From planting a “mini-forest” of 500 trees in the top field, to managing woodland and creating bountiful havens for our local wildlife population.  We are always seeking out new ideas to complement the beauty of our surroundings.

There is always a new project on the go and an even newer one being thought about and discussed at length!

Suitable For

Our exclusively adults cottage is a secluded and peaceful retreat.  A haven for watching the wildlife - we have a bird-watching diary, or watching the stars - the total blackout at night can give you the most amazing views of the universe with the naked eye.  The area is perfect for walking, hiking, painting and drawing, exploring, wild swimming and so much more.

Nearby

We are perfectly positioned in Southern Ceredigion.  Just a few minutes from the rugged West Wales coastline.  From windswept isolated coves to some of the most beautiful, sandy beaches the United Kingdom has to offer. The recently renovated Ceredigion Coast Path is a walkers’ paradise.  Just south of us are the Preseli Mountains, where the Stonehenge standing stones originated from.  The surrounding area has stunning views across Cardigan Bay and further afield across the Irish sea.  The area is steeped in magical Celtic history and fables.  There are a huge variety of historical places, ancient woodlands and neolithic burial grounds to explore.  We have industrial museums, cheese manufacturing, gin distilling, pilgrimage walks and smokehouses on the doorstep and plenty of more adventurous activities just a little further afield.

Food & Drink

You won't be stuck for fabulous places to eat and drink in the area.  There is a tremendous selection to suit all tastes and budgets.  Important mentions go to "The Plwmp Tart" at Penbryn beach, “Crwst” in Cardigan, "In the Welsh Wind" gin distillery at Tan-y-groes and "The Buoy Ashore" at Aberporth beach (summer only.)

Will definitely return

The Forge is the perfect place to unwind. The building has been renovated to the highest standard with quality fixtures and fittings evident everywhere. Our host Jess was very generous with her welcome baskets of goodies. It was so quiet and a perfectly dark sky to enjoy the stars. A great location to explore the nearby coastal path with other walks just outside the door. We will definitely return.

Couldn’t recommend more!

The Forge is an absolutely stunning holiday cottage that provided the most perfect weekend away. Surrounded by the gorgeous Welsh countryside, it was cozy, beautifully decorated and fantastically run. I couldn’t recommend it more!

Return visit did not disappoint

A return visit to this wonderful property did not disappoint. Everything had been thought of by our host Jess as it was previously. We found the Forge spotlessly clean with a generous welcome pack of wonderful Welsh goodies and warm freshly baked bread. Quiet evenings listening to the nature are the perfect tonic to the work left behind. I'm sure we will return soon.

Couple's retreat

The perfect place for a peaceful couple's retreat, with the beach a 10-minute drive away and some lovely pubs to grab food or drink. The cottage itself has been fully refurbished with everything we needed. I would fully recommend to anyone wanting to get away, recharge and reconnect.

A perfectly quiet retreat amongst the trees. A very relaxing and recharging place to stay. Jess the host is lovely and the fish pie is amazing (all the food is great). Highly recommended. We shall return.

Peaceful bolthole

We had a 3-night break here which coincided with some dreadful weather on the middle day. Didn’t stop us getting out and about. It’s a beautiful area and there is lots to see and do. The cottage made a very peaceful and relaxing bolt hole. It is immaculately fitted out, the bed is comfortable, and when you get a clear night, the stars are amazing.

Loved!

Absolutely loved our stay in The Forge at Glanmedeni, it was the perfect weekend retreat. The accommodation has been finished beautifully by Jess and was a pleasure to be in (especially thw bed that’s genuinely comfortable!). The views at Glanmedeni are stunning and we particularly enjoyed walks on the nearby Tresaith beach and in the ancient Tŷ Canol woods, which were magnificent and only a short drive away (also a must-see for any lotr fans!). Highly recommend and very much looking forward to staying here again soon!

Jess went out of her way...

Fantastic 4-night stay at Glanmedeni. The setting is beautiful with gorgeous beaches on your doorstep. The accommodation was spotless and attention to detail in the guidebook makes everything easy. Jess went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed..... the welcome hamper was a lovely touch and the home-made food was delicious. We’ve raved about it to friends and plan to return!

Perfect

We only had a short 2-night stay here but it was perfect. So quiet and tranquil in beautiful countryside and a true getaway from it all break. The forge was fitted out to a very high standard and the kitchen well stocked with everything you needed. We ordered a lasagne from Jess on the first evening which was very tasty. We hope to be back for a longer break.

Absolutely beautiful

The Forge is an absolutely beautiful little cottage tucked in an equally beautiful setting. The place has been very recently renovated and the attention to detail is exquisite. Everything we could have wanted was thought of and Jess was fantastic, providing a lovely welcome hamper and being available if we needed anything. I would highly recommend the fish pie if you order any of the homemade meals!

Beautiful and Cozy

Me and my partner had a wonderful time at Glanmedeni. We were looking for a quiet and peaceful few days away with our two dogs and found this beautiful forge. It was in the perfect location, only 10 minutes from the beach and a short drive to Tycanol Nature Reserve. On our arrival we were warmly welcomed by Jess, with a loaf of fresh warm bread. The forge had everything you needed for breakfast; fresh eggs, milk, butter, tea and coffee etc, as well as all the utensils for cooking. The dogs even got their own toys and treats to keep. The enclosed garden and field was perfect to let the dogs run around, without worrying they would get too adventurous. You can tell Jess puts her heart and soul into this place and we can't recommend Glanmedeni enough. We are definitely booking again in the near future. It was just what we needed over the easter break.

Ideal launch pad!

The Forge is an ideal launch pad from which to explore the breathtaking coastline of Wales. In hindsight, we should have scheduled in a little more time to enjoy our truly scrumptious abode. Instead, we got rather carried away with discovering the myriad hidden treasures on our coffee and cake fuelled day trips.

Such a treat!

Our stay was a surprise gift from my partner for my birthday and it was such a treat! Everything has been so well planned, beautifully finished for the most relaxing and peaceful break. Our dogs loved all their treats too! My especial favourite was the bath, I’ve never had a dip in a wooden tub before and I can really recommend it, a lovely bubbly cuddle!
